Nature does not struggle to change seasons, so why do we?  We are part of the ever evolving process of nature.  When we align ourselves with this wisdom we create balance in all aspects of our life. Each day more and more baby boomers step off the treadmill and into a yoga studio because science has affirmed this mind/body practice is the panacea for living longer, healthier and happier lives.

A yoga practice creates an awareness that as we are a part of nature, we too have seasons.  In the spring of life we move delightfully in play.  In the summer of life we get serious and “work out” with a mantra of “no pain, no gain.”  In the autumn we have grown wiser and seek smarter alternatives in a quest to maintain our health. This is the ideal time to discover yoga. Yoga creates a mindfully gentle transition that encourages us to become fully aware of all our  experiences and to use them to enjoy this miraculous and colorful season of life.

At Joyful Yoga, for over a decade, we have been introducing our students to the wisdom that nurturing the body is a saner plan than abusing, battling, and fighting the body and creating the fight or flight response in order to maintain the unrealistic ideal of burning 500 calories per hour.

As the owners of Joyful Yoga in Southwest Florida my daughters and I created a practice that draws from the original philosophy, where movement is the outward expression and meditation is the the heart of a yoga practice.  I know from my own forty years of having been a yogi the vast benefits of this practice, which are now being validated by science.

While there is a plethora of Western, hybrid styles of “work out” yoga that serve us when we summer of life, but in the autumn we are much better served when we move the body with mindfulness, loving kindness and breathe with intention. This is what we offer at Joyful Yoga, a mind/body connection that encourages us to move, to sit comfortably in stillness, to meditate and to enjoy and celebrate the autumn of our life.

Autumn brings to us the awareness that our bodies are a projection of our consciousness, and not the other-way-round.  At Joyful Yoga, we begin the process with the physical body. The poses.  At ANY age or condition we observe the body changing as we create more strength, flexibility, balance and healing. Anything is possible when we accept the wisdom that we are an integral part of nature and that nature evolves effortlessly.

I invite you to join us in the celebration of joyful healthy living we cultivate at Joyful Yoga.

Namaste,
