Ayurveda at Joyful Yoga
The principles of the science Ayurveda are the foundation of all our Yoga Asana classes, Massage therapies, Skin Care therapies, Energy Healing techniques and much more.
Ayurveda is the 5000 year-old science used as a means of understanding and enlivening the intelligence and healing power within us. According to Dr. Deepak Chopra, this is called quantum healing. We use the 5 senses as the entrée to our body’s own inner wisdom which mirrors the wisdom of the universe. Ayurveda allows us to uncover this wisdom.
“Ayur” means life; “Veda” means Science. Ayurveda is the oldest health model and was reserved for Indian royalty, suppressed with colonization and reintroduced in the 1950’s.
Ayurvedic medicine defines health as much more than the absence of disease ― it is a dynamic and balanced integration between the physical body, mind, and spirit. Vibrant health is a higher state of consciousness in which we open ourselves to expanded levels of creativity, joy, and well-being.
Health is wholeness. In fact, the word health derives from an Anglo Saxon root that means “wholeness” and from which we also get the words holy and hale. When the remembrance of our wholeness is lost, disease begins. The flow of energy and information in our mind-body system has been disrupted, creating a sense of separation or alienation from the field of intelligence.
In order to heal, we need to restore the memory of wholeness. This restoration must take place physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. A fragmented approach cannot ultimately be complete or successful. True healing requires a holistic understanding that embraces all aspects of our selves.
There is no “one size fits all” in the Universe. When we react to anything we react uniquely from a signal generated within.Our mindbody individuality is a result of unique patterns of intelligence, a blueprint outlining our individual operating system. This junction between mind and body are Ayurvedic principles called the three “Doshas”.

When we determine our dominant dosha we can begin to understand the signals that we are sending to ourselves and make choices to create balance. This understanding is the first step to improving homeostasis, self-healing, and creating quantum healing.
Ayurveda outlines and recommends simple guidelines to balance the doshas using the 5 senses, diet, exercise, the way we breathe, the way we sleep, the way we communicate, the way we still the mind. The result is vibrant health, body and mind.
